In thermal power generation, fuel accounts for up to 90% of the cost of the energy produced. Empower’s machines run on heavy fuel oil (HFO), a residual petroleum product  used primarily as fuel for ships and base-load power generation. Other transportable power generation units usually run on more expensive light fuel oil (LFO) i.e. premium diesel fuel.

The price of both LFO and HFO is dependent on both the price of crude oil and the costs of refining. At high oil prices LFO can be more than twice the price of HFO. Major savings can be achieved on the cost of producing electricity when using HFO instead of LFO.
